Like the other Bibles in this exhibit, this item is an incunabulum (English “incunable”) or early printed book; but unlike the others, it was printed not in Latin but German. Only one leaf has survived from this copy, which was published on February 17, 1483 in Nuremberg by Anton Koberger; we know the publication information because of the presence of a colophon in identical copies elsewhere. This page comes from the Book of Daniel and includes red initials that help differentiate sections of the text, a technique called rubrication.
