The manuscript to which this leaf belonged was obviously valuable: its large pages and carefully-written textualis speak to the expense at which it was made. Look closely, and you can see how carefully colour was used during the rubrication process: the initials constantly alternate between red and blue, new sections are marked in red, and new verses are marked with thin red lines to help readers locate specific sections. Unlike many of our manuscripts, we are fairly certain where this was produced, probably at a French Carthusian monastery; however, we cannot date it more precisely than the middle fourteenth century.
